Frameless shower door, brass hardware
Frameless shower door with a frosted privacy band and brushed brass hardware over patterned tile.
A frameless shower door is a sheet of thick tempered glass, 3/8-inch or 1/2-inch, hung on hinges and held with small clips instead of a metal frame: nothing to trap soap scum, and an open line that shows off the tile. We measure every enclosure to your finished tile, so the glass fits the walls you have, not a stock size.
APL Glass & Windows builds frameless, semi-frameless and framed shower enclosures for homeowners remodeling a bathroom across Los Angeles County, the San Gabriel Valley and Orange County, and for contractors who want a licensed C-17 glazier (#1007507) handling the glass. We are family owned and run since the 1990s, fully insured, and we speak English, Tiếng Việt and 中文.
Estimates are free, on site or from photos. Custom tempered glass takes longer than a simple repair to fabricate; we give you the timing when we measure, and the install is a single visit for most showers.
We measure after the tile, curb and any niche are grouted, not before: tile adds thickness, and frameless glass has almost no tolerance for a change of a fraction of an inch. At the measure we check plumb and level, mark where the hinges and handle land, and confirm the door swing clears the toilet and vanity. Mid-remodel, ask your contractor to put solid backing where the hinges will mount.
That visit is when you pick glass and hardware. Standard clear tempered glass has a faint green cast at the edge; low-iron (ultra clear) glass removes it so white tile reads white. Frosted glass gives full privacy, and a frosted privacy band keeps the panel clear with an etched strip at body height. Hardware comes in chrome, brushed nickel, matte black and brushed brass.
The glass is cut, edge-polished and drilled to your measurements, and only then tempered; tempered glass cannot be cut or drilled afterward. That is why a custom enclosure takes longer than a simple repair. We book the install as soon as the glass arrives.
On install day, have the shower clear and dry. We set the fixed panels, hang the door, adjust the hinges until it closes square, and run clear silicone along the fixed panels and curb. Let the silicone cure before the first shower; we tell you how long.

Once the tile is grouted, we measure to the tile, check plumb and level, and confirm your glass, finish and door swing.
Your glass is cut, polished, drilled and tempered to those measurements, and we schedule the install when it arrives.
We install the enclosure, square the door, seal the fixed panels and show you how to keep the glass clean.

Glass thickness and the size and number of panels come first; 1/2-inch glass and a large walk-in panel cost more than a single 3/8-inch door. Low-iron or frosted glass costs more than clear, brass and matte black hardware cost more than chrome, and out-of-plumb walls mean custom-angled cuts that add too. We itemize it on the estimate.
The glass is made to your measurements after the tile is done, so it takes longer than a simple repair; our 1-2 day turnaround applies to repairs, not custom tempered panels. We give you the fabrication time at the measure and install in one visit when it arrives.
3/8-inch is the standard: stiff enough to hang without a frame, light enough for daily use. 1/2-inch has a heavier, more substantial edge and suits large panels, and the hinges and backing are sized for the extra weight. Both are tempered safety glass, which code requires in a shower.
A frameless enclosure is not sealed like a framed one. A clear vinyl sweep along the bottom and a seal on the strike side handle normal spray, and the design does the rest: the door swings away from the showerhead and the curb slopes toward the drain. If a door starts to drip later, the sweep is usually all it needs.
Yes. If the hinges, clips and handle are sound, we measure the old panel and its hole pattern, order a matching tempered panel and reuse your hardware. If the hardware is worn or obsolete, we tell you before you order.
