Sliding Patio Doors in Los Angeles & the San Gabriel Valley

A sliding glass door that takes two hands to open, a panel with a crack through it, a lock that no longer catches: these are the patio door calls we get most. APL Glass & Windows repairs and replaces sliding glass doors for houses, apartments and condos across Los Angeles County, the San Gabriel Valley and Orange County.

Most patio door problems come down to one worn part. The rollers under the sliding panel flatten or seize, the aluminum track wears into a groove, the mortise lock inside the handle breaks, or the dual-pane glass fogs or cracks. Each can be fixed on the door you have. When the frame is bent or the track is worn past saving, we replace the whole door with a new Milgard sliding patio door.

Roller and lock repairs are usually done in one visit; glass replacement in an existing slider is typically 1-2 days for common sizes. Estimates are free, on site or from a photo, from a family-run shop in Rosemead licensed C-17 #1007507 and fully insured. We speak English, Tiếng Việt and 中文.

Patio door repairs and installs

Roller and track repair

The panel comes off the track, the old rollers are swapped for new steel or nylon rollers matched to the door, and the track is cleaned or capped with a stainless steel cover.

Glass replacement in your existing slider

Cracked, broken or foggy panels get a new tempered dual-pane unit cut to the panel size, matching the thickness of the original (most are 1/2-inch to 3/4-inch overall) so the panel seals and locks as before.

Locks and handles

Mortise locks, handle sets, keyed exterior locks and foot bolts for aluminum and vinyl doors. Send a photo of the handle and lock face and we can usually match the part first.

New sliding patio door install

A new Milgard sliding door in vinyl or aluminum with tempered dual-pane Low-E glass, in two-, three- and four-panel configurations, installed as a retrofit in the existing opening or as a new-construction unit.

French doors

Hinged French patio doors as a replacement for a slider or for a new opening, with tempered dual-pane glass and a choice of hardware finishes. We also replace broken glass in existing French doors.

Pet doors cut into glass

The panel’s glass is replaced with a new tempered unit that has the pet door opening made into it, sized for your dog or cat.

Repair or replace: how we decide

A roller repair starts with lifting the sliding panel out of the frame. We remove the old rollers from the bottom of the panel, fit new ones of the same style and height, clean the track, set the panel back in and adjust it so it sits level and the latch lines up with the keeper. On most doors this is done in a single visit; if the roller style is unusual we photograph it, order the match and come back.

The track tells us whether the door is worth saving. An aluminum track worn into a groove can often be fixed with a stainless steel track cap, which gives the new rollers a smooth surface to ride on. Once the track is worn through or bent, or the frame has twisted so the panel will not stay square, new rollers will wear out again quickly. At that point we recommend a new door and show you why on site.

For replacements we install Milgard sliding patio doors: vinyl frames in white and other exterior colors, or thermally improved aluminum with slim sightlines, both with tempered dual-pane Low-E glass. A retrofit patio door fits inside the existing frame the way a retrofit window does, so the stucco and interior trim stay as they are.

How it works

From photo to finished job

  1. 1

Text us a photo of the door, the rollers or the broken glass and we will send a free estimate.

  2. 2

For glass we measure the panel and order a tempered dual-pane unit; for rollers and locks we bring the likely parts to the first visit.

  3. 3

Repairs are done on site in one visit; glass and new doors go in when the unit arrives, usually 1-2 days for common sizes.

  4. 4

We test the door for smooth travel and a solid lock before we leave, and haul away the old glass or door.

Questions customers ask

My sliding door is very hard to open. Does it need to be replaced?

Usually not. A door that drags, grinds or bounces almost always has flattened or seized rollers, and new rollers plus a cleaned track bring it back. We only recommend a new door when the track is worn through or the frame is bent.

Can you replace the glass without replacing the door?

Yes. We remove the panel, take out the broken or foggy unit and fit a new tempered dual-pane unit cut to the same size and thickness. The frame, track and hardware all stay.

What does a patio door repair or replacement cost depend on?

Rollers, locks and handles are priced by the part plus the visit. Glass is priced by panel size and glass type; tempered Low-E costs more than clear tempered. A new door depends on size, number of panels, vinyl versus aluminum, and retrofit versus new-construction install.

Does sliding door glass have to be tempered?

Yes. Building code requires safety glass in all doors, and tempered glass is the standard because it breaks into small blunt pieces instead of shards. Every panel we replace and every new door we install uses it.

Can you put a pet door in my sliding glass door?

Yes. Tempered glass cannot be cut after it is made, so we replace the panel’s glass with a new tempered unit that has the pet door opening built in. The frame and track stay as they are.

Do you install French doors instead of a slider?

Yes. A hinged French door pair fits most standard slider openings. We go over swing direction, hardware finish and glass options on the estimate visit.

We had a good experience with APL replacing panels for our storefronts. Even though there were some hiccups and minor delays, they still finished earlier than my other quotes. The job was done with care and at a reasonable cost, and their team kept in communication.

Mark installed an AutoSlide on my patio door for my dogs (RFID dog tag automatically opens door). The installation was completed on a timely basis. However and through no fault of his own, the manufacturer took over a month to get the tags delivered to him. Without requesting it, Mark gave me a discount to make up for the late delivery. The five star rating is because Mark valued his service to the customer over his profit margin. Thank you Mark!
